I hate the thought of just trashing it, so first I want to ask if any third parties might be able to replace the rechargeable battery in this unit. I'm thinking once upon a time there were people who actually repaired electronics, might that be possible here, or is this device too obscure?
Hi, I'd imagine it's possible to replace the batteries. Opening the unit isn't hard - 3 screws and 2 sticky labels. The main thing would be to replace them with the correct chemistry and capacity. You certainly don't want to put NiMH batteries in if the charging circuit is expecting NiCd for instance! In my experience such replacements don't often last as long as the originals though - often cheap replacements aren't of the same quality, and/or the charger isn't really matched to them very well.
