Hi, Hi to all Let me explain this a bit. When we moved to PMS+ we changed paper type so we had to redo the data base. This has nothing to do with X-rite buying Pantone. At the same time, X-rite was introducing XRGA and that technology was applied to the new data set. We measured the first printing across many replicates and built the new data base. PMS+ colors changed for a number of reasons, but primarily the paper base was different. It was a conscious decision to use environmentally approved FSC (forest stewardship Council) paper. All current X-rite instruments are XRGA standardized and if they contain PMS+ data it is from exactly the same source that is distributed to Pantone Licensees. The data that is shared with most licensees is UV cut (Measurement mode M2). There are many legacy instruments which are not XRGA upgraded or do not have the upgraded data base in them. I believe that the instrument has to be returned for upgrade and recalibration. The current values in Photoshop CS5 are correct. Related: I have in my notes from last April the CIElab values for PMS 2747 changed when Pantone replaced the solid coated formula guides with the +Plus series from L* 17 a*17 b*-54 to L* 13.691 a* 21.787 b* -54.478 respectively, so there's a dE76 5.8 we got just by watching the show.
The one thing that stays the same are the ink formulas. The CIElab values change. My ink vendor tells me his techs compare drawdowns to the +PLUS series books. The Pantone Solid formula guides and libraries are relics.
