This betatest includes: 1) New reference lightning based ISO 3664:2009 which activates optical brightners (OBA)in print and proof medai much more, than the lightning before 2) New measurement mode M1 based on ISO 13655:2009, which activates optical brightners in print and proof media dureing measurements more, than with the current M0 mode. 3) Update of GRACOL and ISO 12647-2 specs, which are both reference the new lightning and the new measurement mode M1 4) New characterization-data and ICC-profiles representing the GRACoL and new ISO 12647-2 specs. My current impressions from this betatest is as follows: 1) Problems in proof to print match: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Typical pint media has an higher amount of OBA, than typical proofing media conforming to ISO 12647-7. This leads in the past for some customers with new lightning at the printing booth to a worse proof to print match, than with the old lightning. To solve this problem, we need new characterization-data and profiles representing a more high bright / bluish whitepoint and proofing media with a whitepoint matching both the characterization and typical print media. We also need an update of ISO 12647-7 for proofing media and proofing verification concerning the media whitepoint of proofing media. We will may see in the first quarter 2014 some interesting news on the market... 2) Referencing M1 in GRACOL and ISO 12647:2-2013 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Several people say that M1 is the future of measuring for the graphic arts. It is referenced both in ISO 12647-2:2013 and GRACoL. My impression is, that there have not been an intensive testing of M1 before it was referenced in GRACoL and ISO 12647-2:20013. From the european view, the media whitepoint for typical coated and uncoated papers in the new specs are fitting better M0 and not M1. What is about process control for printing and proofing ? - - Must this be M1 in near future ? - - Do all users need to buy ne M1 conforming measurement equipment ? - - What should printers do, if there scanning measurement equipment at the press can´t be updated to M1 ? 3) Dealing with very bluish profiles for softproof and separation +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ New printing conditions will be much more bluish than current printing conditions. This trend will enhanced, if M1 will be the standard for the future and standard printing conditions will reflect M1 values of real world papers. This leads e.g. to b* -6 for a lot of european coated papers and b* - -12 for a lot of european uncoated papers. Concerning colormanagement I see two areas unsolved: - - What about a absolut colorimetric softproof with such bluiesh standard profiles ? - - What about separation strategies with such bluiesh standard profiles ? I don´t expext that the typical separation strategy relative colorimetric with blackpoint compensation will lead to a good gray balance for such very bluiesh profiles. Having had to work with the wide range of very 'white' uncoated papers on the market, Fogras choice of 93 2 -10 seems a reasonable choice based on what I have measured. I guess though there will still be a need to edit and/or create profiles for some of the very 'unusually' uncoated papers in the market.
