I jest not, it's the obvious way to go. The only problem really is getting filters that fit the lens you are using, maybe a linear strip is the way to do it. We have irregular shapes of spectral characteristics of CFA. Consider what happens when the intensity of red light is too small to cause a reasonably noiseless response in the green and blue channels.
