Karl, I must apologize for throwing in inconsiderate comments that can really bias the opinions of readers about the seriousness of a company. Impatience set apart, I have nothing but praises about the products I have used, and even more praise for the constant helpful and friendly support I had from your team at BasICColor. As you said to me once, if there was not a kind of protection for the programs, the company would get bankrupt in no time. And I think the (not so) new system is now easily manageable for your customers. That said, I am in the bunch of people who keep everything in their head until they forget! People who have multiple emails and accounts registered to the same company, who have at least four computers running with different OS's to suit ageing peripherals and software. So I sometimes get mad at myself for not remembering why I have that Protekton message jumping at my face when I launch the calibration in CS2 on the Imacwhere in the world do I have that working copy installed? and now CS2 seems to have lost it's link to Adobe and refuses to open, I have to reinstall it from a non server linked installer, makes me loose a day or two each time to get back to work I could go on with the list of griefs that are in fact not imputable to companies, nor even to myself, but maybe to the passing of time, which seems to run every year a little faster, albeit my mind's working is getting slower and slower You know it. So, again, please accept my sincere excuses. Kind regards Paul Schilliger Karl Koch wrote on 22.01.16 11:08:
Paul,
let me answer the basICColor part of your post on the scanning topic, nearly all I could contribute has been said by others already ;-)
The licensing is different, yes! But a pain? Yes, it was. But that´s ancient history, some time back in 2001 or so. Today you enter (copy and paste) the TAN code that you receive with your purchase, into the licensing window that pops up automatically with a freshly installed software bingo! What could be easier? OK, you have to be registered on our server, though bummer ;-).
Yes, again: scanner/camera profiling used to be a Photoshop plug-in some 15 years ago.
We are working on the next version of basICColor input which will not only make ICC profiles but also dc profiles for Raw. This will be the first software that makes dcps from scratch, as opposed to modifying existing dcps or writing settings for Raw development.
Best regards Karl
