Ah -- I follow, now. More than one way to do it...probably least awful would be to start by cropping the image as desired (possibly refining the crop with the canvas size dialog). Add a layer and fill it with any color -- what color doesn't matter. Then use the canvas size dialog to resize the image as you would in Photoshop. Use the magic wand to select the area you filled in the new layer. Create another new layer, invert the selection, and fill the selection with your desired color. Move the new layer to the top. Delete (or hide) the first new layer you created. b&
