Like in PS CS5, I have the exact size image file I want, then I can go to image > canvas size > and choose a plain white border, around the image. I can choose the width and color. This is, in my words, unadulterated. In Affinity Photo, I can get a border, using the rectangular tool, as Affinity Photo describes, however I still don’t know the image file dimension, nor how to make the white and keep it. David

Not sure what you mean by, "unaltered border."
Image size is easy. Cmd-opt-I (same as in Photoshop) brings up the image resize dialog box (which I'm sure you can get to through a menu). There's a drop-down in there to specify the units for the document...it defaults to pixels, which is annoying. Same with canvas size, which is the familiar cmd-opt-C.
Affinity doesn't always properly pick up image resolution from TIFFs and instead defaults to, I think, 75 PPI. That's also annoying. But, if you know the proper resolution, you can change it easily enough. Just be sure to uncheck the "resample image" box.

This is not part of the discussion. You both have Affinity Photo….that’s my reason for the query.
Have you found a simple way to create an unaltered border, and know what the image size is in inches?
Cheers.
