Help - How to print a Pantone Swatch?
Hi all, I am trying to test my proofing systems (12647-7 and 12647-8) accuracy for reproducing Pantone colors. I was wondering what would be the best process in order:
to create the file. Do I need export a CXF or a ASE file? If so, do I need to remain them in Lab?
to prepare and export the file to be printed: resolution, size patch, colorspace.
to be able to retrieve the name on each tint if it's feasible...
Thanks a lot beforehand. Regards, Axel Axel Robert | UBISOFT Prepress quality manager 28, rue Armand Carrel - 93100 |Montreuil-sous-Bois Cedex | France | Direct Tel. : +33 (0)1 48 18 52 03 | Skype: axelprepress
Hi Axel, Technically if you have a proofing with ISO12647-7 certified, you should able to reproduce only the “Pantone” within the Fogra39 colorspace. ISO 12647-7 do not check the Pantone color at all. The question is how accurate that you want the Pantone to achieve. I suggest you looking into the Epson new P series. (its always the combination of the inkjet paper + printer) Also Pantone only have Solid as 100% in color, we do not have any value (in digital or printed) on the tint of its Pantone colors. Please take a look on this CxF Toolbox from CGS. http://www.cgs-oris.com/index.php/en/products/oris-cxf-toolbox <http://www.cgs-oris.com/index.php/en/products/oris-cxf-toolbox> regards, yan

For highest accuracy use a RIP which supports Lab input. 1) choose sample color from Illustrator CC, selecting Lab mode 2) note the Lab values 3) print the color with colorimetric rendering 4) download Profile Maker from the Xrite web site (free) 5) install the Color Picker module 6) read the printed swatch 7) compare the achieved Lab match with the desired values Sent from my iPhone

Hello Axel To complement what Jon Meyer mentioned. If you have your Pantone L*a*b* database in CxF open it using PatchTool (Warning: this program is from my company!) 1a: Export a L*a*b* image in PatchTool and print in your workflow. or 1b: Convert to CMYK to your required profile, export a CMYK image, and print in your workflow. http://www.babelcolor.com/patchtool_export_img.htm 2- You can read and compare the printed patches with PatchTool also. http://www.babelcolor.com/patchtool_patchreader_file.htm Note-1: You may need to add some separators between patches if you measure line-by-line using an i1Pro ruler (with a program export option) Note-2: Or you can scramble the patches for better contrast before making the images (of course using another of the program tools) http://www.babelcolor.com/patchtool_target_scramble.htm Note-3: You can remove out-of-gamut patches before generating the image (using PatchTool Clip-Check/Data sent ot PCS, and then editing out the patches with large round-trip errors) http://www.babelcolor.com/patchtool_gamut_convert.htm http://www.babelcolor.com/patchtool_edition_mode.htm Danny Pascale www.babelcolor.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Axel Robert" <axel.robert@ubisoft.com> To: <Colorsync-users@lists.apple.com> Sent: Thursday, February 11, 2016 6:16 AM Subject: Help - How to print a Pantone Swatch?

Correction for Note 3: I was too fast on the keyboard for this note. Thanks to Axel for questioning my directives! The output of a Clip-Check is a Compare file, and it is not possible to edit the patches for this kind of file within PatchTool. What is required is to remove the out-of-gamut patches is: i- order the patches by increasing DeltaE* (in the Tabular data tab) ii- Export the Compare file (Name and L*a*b* data only) iii- edit the file in a spreadsheet so that just the REFERENCE patches below the required DeltaE* threshold are kept. Save the file as Tab-delimited. The first line should have four fields: Name L* a* b* iv- Reopen the file in PatchTool.
