I am trading some RAW DNG digital camera files back and forth with a friend, and for some reason, some of the metadata is changing, notably the custom camera profile shown in the LR/ACR Calibration tab. What is being sent is not being read or displayed when imported into LR. So, I want look at the full metadata in the DNG file without opening the file in Photoshop, ACR or Lightroom. This may be caused by default settings or preferences, but being able to view the file outside of Adobe software should at least establish what is written to the DNG file. I'm currently using OSX 10.6.8. Are there any native OSX tools that will allow me to do this? If not, is there an easy to use, free utility that will allow me to view metadata? Thanks, Lou Dina

I'm using exiftool for this purpose, http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ RPP will show the metadata as well. http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/Downloads.html -- Iliah Borg ib@pochtar.com

One should be able to embed the DNG profile inside the DNG itself (a significant advantage to DNG over the alternative sidecar options). Are you sure whoever first selected the profile forced a save (Command S in Lightroom) to Save Metadata to file and also, under the same Photo menu item, select Update DNG Metadata and Preview commands?
