Profilemaker charts in i1 Profiler?
I know that Profiler is using different files. I guess it is xml based. Can I use charts made with Profilemaker in new Profiler? What do I need to do so I can use my profilemaker ref files in Profiler? ------ Best Regards, Derek Lambert

In the Patch Set workflow, you can import a legacy .txt file (reference or existing measured data file). Make sure you select txt. from the popup menu as it defaults to .pfx. You will then need to configure the instrument, page size etc. It is the Load button under Page Data in the Patch Set workflow. In the Test Chart workflow, you can only load the entire description of a target (patches, instrument, page size) from i1Profiler created targets (.tfx) although you can save them in several different formats. You could build a target in i1P and use it in ProfileMaker. Going the other way takes more work but is doable. That said, if you can avoid this approach and re-build new targets within i1Profiler, you’ll get better results in most cases. The new target (patch) generation engine is superior to the older PMP engine. IOW, if you were to take say a 1728 patch RGB legacy target built in ProfileMaker Pro and just asked i1P to build a new 1728 patch target, build a profile both ways, you’ll see a slightly better result with the newer target. In the latest version of i1Profiler you can load ProfileMaker references directly into the new "Measure Reference Chart" workflow. This should, in most cases, pick up device, patch size layout etc. As Andrew notes however this is primarily so that you can measure charts that have already been imaged - such as those from a generic press form. Generating a new patch set directly from within i1Profiler will almost always result in a profile of better quality. I guess I need to be more specific. What I would like to do is to recreate some charts I use in Profiler that match exactly original charts that I made in ProfileMaker. I have reference files with correct patch order and position. Is this possible? ------ Best Regards, Derek Lambert On May 9, 2012, at 2:00 PM, RaymondCheydleur <rcheydleur@xrite.com> wrote:

Yes, I’ve done this too. It isn’t easy. You basically import the patch data, then futz around with patch size and such until you get an identical appearing target in i1Profile that matches what you had in ProfileMaker pro. So even though you have the correct patch order and position, that isn’t something i1P can decipher. If you setup the instrument and page to match the original, then it is a matter of carefully altering the patch size sliders until you get the exact match. Not easy but doable. Thank you Andrew. Did you do this also for multipage targets? You can't fit one page it8.74 on iO table. I have some plastics to profile for flexography that will not work in iSis. Would this work for multiple page targets? ------ Best Regards, Derek Lambert On May 9, 2012, at 3:48 PM, Andrew Rodney <andrew@digitaldog.net> wrote:

It should. As long as the multiple pages look identical in i1P as they do in ProfileMaker, you’re good to go. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/

Do you have good reason to not just maximize the number of patches you can get on a single page and use i1Profiler's new patch generator to fill it? I'd encourage you to try this and see what flaws you can detect from the results. Scott Martin www.on-sight.com
