Re: Colorsync-users Digest, Vol 12, Issue 61
I agree with Andrew. The sad part is that Xrite hires beta-testers for their software but they do not seem to follow through with the de-bugging process before releasing it. That usually is caused by the bean counters or some executive who thinks a release date is more important than product quality. Then again, sometimes the dumbest bugs do not disappear after several revisions (updates) so my observation could be incorrect. Many times I try to follow manuals that were obviously not tested to see if they actually work. When people like me apply to companies like Xrite to write manuals the HR department does not think I am capable of writing instructional materials because I did not go to bad manual writing school. The result is that the users must struggle to figure out how to get around the software bugs or hire people like me to come in, set up their workflow & re-write the manual. X-Rite is still making top-notch hardware. Their spectrometers and colorimeters are everything you could want in a graphic arts device, and you're not going to find a better reflectance target for field use than the ColorChecker Passport.
I agree 100%. The Passport target and even it's associated software are Lightroom plug-in were both excellent and it's the last time I've seen anything impressive out of X-rite software. And their hardware is also excellent. It's a shame they don't take the same level of pride in i1Profiler.
