Reading ambient light using an Eye-One Pro
List-members- In the past, I've used i1 Share to acquire spectral data from ambient light sources using the Eye-One Pro and it's ambient light filter. i1 Share won't run on Lion. Are there any suggestions for Lion-compatabile software that will grab spectral data from light sources? I know of Canon's Light Source Measure Tool but that will only provide degrees Kelvin (as well as illuminance). Regards, _peter

Peter, Have a look at BabelColor CT&A Spectral Tools: http://www.babelcolor.com/main_level/CTandA_screenshots.htm#Spectral_tools You can write to me off list if you have specific questions. SpectraShop will acquire and analyze ambient, flash and monitor light sources, in addition to reflective and transmissive objects. It runs on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, as well as Windows. You can get more information on it here. Robin Myers On Apr 26, 2012, at 1:40 PM, Peter Constable wrote:

Will it export the ambient light measurement in a format that i1Profiler can use when I create a printer profile? We often do prints that are placed in a room with fluorescent lighting. To be able to create a profile that incorporates the light has been one of the uses that we have had for i1 Share. Stefan Ohlsson 26 apr 2012 kl. 23.16 skrev Robin Myers:

You can take ambient measurements for this purpose within i1Profiler. In the "Lighting" step of the profiling process, choose "Measure" from the Ambient Light pop-up menu. You can save your measurements as assets for future use. Scott Martin www.on-sight.com On Apr 27, 2012, at 3:13 AM, Stefan Ohlsson wrote:

You can use ArgyllCMS's spotread to do this. However, there is a big, fat bug in Lion which halts the process after capturing the data and displaying the chart. Instead of the usual analysis of the results you get this instead: spotread[266] <Error>: kCGErrorInvalidConnection: CGSGetWindowTags: Invalid connection spotread[266] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged It doesn't affect the capture of the data though. -- Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging Ltd

XRite's Pantone Color Manager (ships with i1Profiler) is the current product that has ambient light measurement and analysis. However, I've never gotten it to recognize any of my i1Pros. Has anyone else gotten this to work? Scott Martin www.on-sight.com
BabelColor has no problem recognizing all my i1pro's and more. It's a shame that third party apps manage these apparently simple tasks better than the mother ship :( / Roger (me and my loud mouth...) -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of Scott Martin Sent: April-26-12 5:20 PM To: Peter Constable Cc: colorsync-users@lists.apple.com Subject: Re: Reading ambient light using an Eye-One Pro On Apr 26, 2012, at 3:40 PM, Peter Constable wrote:

Pantone Color Manager (PCM) does not seem to measure ambient light with any instrument. You must go into i1Profiler, make a custom measurement with an i1Pro, save it, then launch PCM. The custom measurement will appear in the Lighting menu. This is mentioned on page 16 in the PCM User Manual in the "Quick Tip". There is no manual for i1Profiler. I found the Lighting tool by clicking on either the "Profiling" or "OBC Profiling" options under the "Workflow selection:" heading in the "Workflow Selector". Then click on the Lighting tool icon in the "Printer Profiling Workflow" toolbar below the "Patch Set" display. Good luck! Robin Myers On Sep 25, 2012, at 7:21 PM, Scott Martin wrote:
