i1 Profiler charts to ColorPort?
OK, this thread about ProfileMaker-to-i1Profiler got me thinking about how else to use i1Profiler for a specific need. Is there any way to use i1P's chart generating prowess in combination with an older, unsupported spectro? Specifically, is there a way to generate a chart with i1Profiler, then load that into ColorBurst's Spectralvision Pro (an OEM version of ColorPort), to format the chart so that SVP can read it with a DTP20 (Pulse)? Why would anyone want to do this, you might ask... well, I would like to use i1Profiler to improve the CMYK profiles used in the RIP. ColorBurst requires the use of a UV-cut spectro - hence the DTP20, since my EyeOne is UV-included. Like ColorPort, SVP can save measurements in cgats format, which i1P can import to build the profile, so I just need to get the i1P patch set formatted & read by the DTP20. I haven't had any success figuring out how to resave the .pxf file i1P generates into anything that ColorPort can use (assuming any success here should also work in SpectralVision Pro). When I go to build new target, and Import Patches, ColorPort sees the .pxf (and a resaved .txt version), but then just throws up a "There was an error importing this file" error. Maybe instead of just resaving the .pxf as a.txt file it needs some editing as well? Obviously, I have no clue. Yes, I’ve done this too. It isn’t easy. You basically import the patch data, then futz around with patch size and such until you get an identical appearing target in i1Profile that matches what you had in ProfileMaker pro. So even though you have the correct patch order and position, that isn’t something i1P can decipher. If you setup the instrument and page to match the original, then it is a matter of carefully altering the patch size sliders until you get the exact match. Not easy but doable.

I see where you're going with this. I too have liked to bypass SV and make higher quality profiles in Monaco Profiler and now i1Profiler. The way to do this is easier than you might think. Save your i1P patch set and load it into CP to make a new target formatted for your device. Print the target through the RIP after performing all of the calibration/linearization steps. Plan on measuring that target in CP and drag and drop the measurement file onto i1P for proifling. Once you've got your profile you can enable it in ColorBurst. No need to launch SV at all, except for linearization prior to profiling. Make sense? Of course, just getting an i1Pro2 would be even easier! Hi Scott, Yes, you've got the idea. But what I'm saying is that I can't get that i1P patch set into ColorPort. In ColorPort, I've tried Patch Set > New > Import Patches, but get the "There was an error..." message. Target Manager won't import the i1P patch set either. What am I missing? P.S. oh yes, I'm saving my pennies to upgrade my iO with an i1Pro2 - seems like it would be perfect for ColorBurst XProof, except that it's not supported by ColorPort (yet) and the ColorBurst folks say they have no plans to support it in the future! Go figure...

Ahh, yes, I can confirm that. i1P 1.3.1 appears to behave differently than previous versions. When saving a .pxf, i1P used to save a companion .txt file that was the one you could import into ColorPort. I have a bunch of those txt files that I made before 1.3.1 but it's no longer making them. In my experience, ColorPort seems to "like" CSV-formatted files best. You might try saving/exporting your i1Profiler data as a ProfileMaker 5 CGATS file, open this in Excel (or Numbers on a Mac) and strip out all the measurement data leaving just the CMYK or RGB device values.....you can even remove the label headers. Save/export this as a CSV file and import into ColorPort.
