Re: Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000
Hi Tony, This is off topic from the thread but wanted to share an experience. I once had trouble making a Giclée print with an Epson on canvas that contained dark tones. The original was an oil painting and my ¾ tones were dark saturated purples that kept going to black or near black–a lot of black streaks that now looked like brush strokes. After tweaking things in the RIP, StudioPrint, and other tricks without success, I finally looked at the GCR. That solved the issue by adjusting the GCR black curve. I tried various curves but ended up using a setting of no K for my custom profile. Once black was removed then I had a print I could work with and tweak those heavy saturated colors. David Wollmann

I started using Imageprint several years ago and came to appreciate it for better print quality and color management predictability given Apple/Epson/Adobe constantly messing with subtle changes that disrupt color management.
I gave up on ImagePrint after using for many generations of the software. I started testing IP after I ran into situations where it couldn’t print areas of saturated color. The first instance that got me started was the side of a building that was a deep saturated blue on my Eizo that IP printed as black. As I went back through my prints I found other areas of saturated color that IP couldn’t render on my 3880 that I just overlooked at the time.
When I started to compare the 3D gamuts of profiles in ColorThink (IP’s, custom, and canned) I couldn’t believe the difference. The IP gamuts were very limited - tiny, in fact - when compared with either custom or canned profiles for the Epson - even, if I’m remembering correctly, smaller than sRGB or CMYK gamuts I looked at. I’d post a picture of a CT IP gamut, but shortly thereafter I ditched the software and it’s profiles.
