reflectance data from iOne Pro2
Hi, I 've recently bought an iOne Pro2 spectrophotometer for my research about colour management. However, the device does not have any function to get the reflectance data of the colour patches or I cannot find the function. Can anybody help me in this regard? Thank you very much in advance. Regards, Hoiz
You need some kind of utility program to drive the instrument. There are some free ones like Argyll and a few commercial ones like PatchTool and SpectraShop. I'm probably forgetting some other important ones... / Roger -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of Hossein Izadan Sent: 23 avril 2015 06:34 To: colorsync-users@lists.apple.com Subject: reflectance data from iOne Pro2 Hi, I 've recently bought an iOne Pro2 spectrophotometer for my research about colour management. I bought Graeme’s ArgyllPRO ColorMeter and run both an i1Pro2 and an original Eye-One from a cheap Nexus tablet. Measures everything from patches to camera flash and it’s great not having to lug a laptop about in the field. -- Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging Ltd
i1Profiler (in the box with the instrument) allows you to create charts from 1 patch to many with no associated reference values. You can measure directly into this chart and save the data in many formats including spectral using the custom CGATS option. This can be done with the completely unlicensed version. If you are a licensed reflection profiling user with an i1Pro2 there is a new feature in 1.6.1 (released this week - but not yet on the auto update server but available on our site) that allows you to preview data: double click on any single measured patch and get the input recipe, a Œsoftproof' of the patch under M0, M2 and M3 measurement modes, spectral curves, Colorimetry plot, Colorimetry data, densitometry data. This new feature is available in all the primary measure chart modes. There are also several 3rd party solutions (Roger has mentioned some leading contenders) that have great support for the i1Pro2 and may provide alternatives that better suit your needs for a pure data collection tool. 1.6.1? Wow! Can't wait. Glad i1Profiler finally incorporates "previewing" features that have been sorely missed from day one. Best / Roger P.S. While I have you on the line, Ray, about the new iSis 2, with direct support for M0, M1 and M2, does the instrument still use more than one pass in order to return the measured spectral reflectance, say, in M1 mode? -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of Ray Cheydleur Sent: 23 avril 2015 09:22 To: colorsync-users@lists.apple.com Subject: Re: reflectance data from iOne Pro2 i1Profiler (in the box with the instrument) allows you to create charts from 1 patch to many with no associated reference values. Me either. Looks like the Engineers of this product are back to work? Let's see, according to My-X-rite download site in terms of i1Profiler releases: 1.3.1 4/11/2012 1.6.1 4/??/2015 Pretty much gives us an idea of the progress this high end product is making over 3 years. Don't get me wrong, I do want to see the upgrade and improvements but the glacial speed of this progress should be noted. Meanwhile, thank goodness that old MacBook can run ProfileMaker Pro's modules who's functionality still isn't found in i1P. Andrew Rodney
Hi Andrew, If the last release you have is 1.3.1 you have missed out of a few minor and major interim releases. I didn¹t mention all the updates in 1.6.1 as I didn¹t want to make it a product placement, but there are some other goodies in there for you ColorPort or PM fans as well. Lot¹s more to be done but steady progress is being made. I didn't say that Ray and we both know that i1P has an auto update feature. What I didn't miss were multple versions fixing Xrite's XRD bkgnd processes. What I didn't miss is that the last dot release installed an older HAPS process that crashes every few seconds. Do you know if 1.6.1 actually address this bug? Or will I have to go back to HAPS's site and download the correct version after 1.6.1 insteall? What I'm illustrating is that version 1.3.1 was released three years prior to 1.6.1 which I'm still waiting on. I consider that a rather glacial speed of engineering from X-rite considering large amounts of features in ProfileMaker Pro and PROFILER which i1P was said to replace still do not exist in X-rite's high end, flagship product. Can we expect version 2.0 with a few more ProfileMaker Pro features by 2018? Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/

Par for the course from X-rite these days. I suppose no one inside or out of the company tested this before released. And when you do get an update, I'd love to know if you find the new beta features in i1P's Patch Viewer anything useful or find it as ugly and buggy as what I see on the Mac. The UI mess I see could have been fixed by an engineer in a day I suspect. How it got released in this state is sad and shocking. Maybe we'll see a 1.6.2 release to fix this by years end, I'm not holding my breath. I see nothing in this new Patch Viewer module that isn't better in legacy products like ColorPort and the 3rd party options already discussed are light years ahead. So getting back OT, if anyone here was hoping to use software for reflectance data from an i1 Pro, move ahead and ignore this new update. It's a mess. Support 3d party software endeavors! I certainly look forward to testing the new features, Andrew, especially in the classroom, these days, if there is anything useable. Been getting my share of C++ Run-Time errors but it works, for the most part. / Roger -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Rodney [mailto:andrew@digitaldog.net] Sent: 24 avril 2015 10:19 To: Roger Breton Cc: 'colorsync-users?lists.apple.com' List Subject: Re: reflectance data from iOne Pro2

My version of i1Profiler 1.5.6 properly detected the 1.6.1 update as available and updated correctly from within the application. I am running on Mac OS X 10.9. Works on Mac, not Windows apparently. Patch Editor is a train wreck: load a target of a couple hundred patches. Some appear showing the color on the left hand side of the UI, many do not. You can load but not append more data, if you want to add a patch, it's one at a time. The UI on my Mac is filled with graphics that are not fully drawn (Red, Green, Blue). The asset area always defaults to closed and isn't stickly like the other modules. You must open them every time you visit the module. It takes forever to load patches. Click on a patch where no color appears on the left, press the Up or Down button, the color appears out of nowhere. You can delete a patch but you better want to, no undo. You can click on a column and it highlights some area, not others depending on which you pick, the action of the buttons has no effect either way so what's going on? Select patch 1, click on the Up button, that button grays out. Now pick another patch, still grayed out. I can go on and on, this is a beta of a release if that based on just this mess of a new module. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/

I was sent a direct download link off a third party hosting service. Followed the friendly link. Got the Installer Executable. Everything went well. The new patch editor reminds me an awful lot of ColorPort test chart creator, where one gets to define the device values for a given new test chart? Other than that, I have not seen the other new features in this update :( And Terry, you're right. I think it's a good idea to store measurements within sub-folders inside the measurement assets folder. But if i1Profiler does not have the programming smarts to look within sub-folder, its kinds of defeat the purpose. Long term, they need to do a better job at this. Heidelberg Color ToolBox has had that feature nailed for a long time. Well within just 5 minutes of working with the new Patch Viewer in i1Profile 1.6.1 I've found no less that three bugs and GUI messiness. If you're looking for a tool to deal with targets and patches, this is a sad joke. X-rite, don't you have any more outside beta testers any more? Does anyone work in Q&E? I'm looking at the Mac version, perhaps someone on Windows will have a better user experence. The Mac version is an embarrassment. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/
