Profile creation and editing software
Hello all - I am currently employing a digital copy stand with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III that is actually quite effective. I need to move the setup to a new location, and will be changing out some of the lighting equipment, so I will need to start over with a new input profile. I have basICColor input 3.1.2 to create the input profile from the X-Rite colorchecker Digital SG card, but I am now looking for some decent profile editing software to fine tune my input profile. The last software that I had used was Profile Maker Pro 5.0.10, but that is no longer compatible with Mac 10.8. Any suggestions for a profiling software package that would allow editing of a profile that won't break the bank? I wouldn't mind a package that would allow for the creation of an output profile as well, but for now, editing is my main goal. Many thanks.
The need for profile *editing* immediately rules out using i1Profiler for scan/input profiles. You'd have to add on ProfileMaker 5's Profile Editor module, which you may already have, or find a 3rd party solution. Of course, PM5 Profile Editor is going to require either Windows or pre-10.8 MacOS. Decent profile editing software seems about as plentiful as hen's teeth currently. Even though I'm using i1Profiler on MacOS 10.9, I still maintain a Parallels/Win7 installation just to run PM5 Measure Tool and Profile Editor....a sad state of affairs I think. That old MacBook Pro I got, a non Intel processor, can run Kodak's old Custom Color ICC in Photoshop CS2 which IMHO is still the best editor ever. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/
You'll spend a lot less money just using the software that worked for you in the past and get an old MacBook Pro to run 10.5. I got one for $160 on eBay just to run a lot of color management legacy software. There are some improvements in the color engine with i1P, the supposed replacement for ProfileMaker Pro but at a cost to you along with lots of potential frustrations. I'd stick with the solutions you own and work for you, dedicate an inexpensive Mac to run them. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/ On Mar 25, 2014, at 9:53 AM, mfranzen3@wi.rr.com wrote:

This company used to have an ICC Profile Editor which, at the time, was working in demo mode for a number of days. http://studio.spectracal.com/software-lut Always wanted to spend some time experimenting with it. But, does not look like it's still available? I've searched the website to no avail. I think their editor was called Calman ICC something. Was said to be pretty interesting. I'll have to dig the email address of the owner... There's also Fuji Colourkit Profile Editor, that still has some value, if it can still be found commercially. I think it is discontinued. Then, there's Monaco. I don't think basICColor has anything in terms of a Profile Editor. Andrew, can the Kodak software still work with the current crop of ICC profiles? / Roger -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of mfranzen3@wi.rr.com Sent: March 25, 2014 11:54 AM To: colorsync-users@lists.apple.com Subject: Profile creation and editing software Hello all - I am currently employing a digital copy stand with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III that is actually quite effective. Recently (a year ago) I was able to edit a scum dot out of a CMYK profile built initially in MonacoPROFILER. I could try feeding it something from i1Profiler. What wouldn't work (and how to test that?). Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/

Mathew, Look's interesting. But can it load an ICC profile for editing? Especially one of those evil "Output" ICC profiles, the ones used to drive a CMYK device? Or is it more geared towards editing RGB color inside a given image? I'll investigate some more... Hi It is for editing RGB camera profiles. In older versions it would only edit Phase One digital back profiles but I noticed it will now edit the supplied Canon profiles.
From the help: With Capture One PRO and DB it is also possible define your own customised ICC profile. If you are using Mac OS X, place the desired ICC profile under your user profile in the folder Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ColorSync. Restart - Close and then Restart the application and the new profile will appear in the Preferences>Color management panel.
No idea what it will do with a CMYK profile, throw a cog at a guess.
