Courses and training - need suggestions or recommendations.
Hi, Everyone. I would like to either read a book or attend a course (short, half to one full day in duration) as a primer on color technology. The subjects I would like to learn more about are different color models and color spaces, different gamut between devices (monitors x printers), calibration of computer monitors for proper color reproduction and how it is performed including the use of LUT (look up tables), lighting for proper viewing and color evaluation, and others. Is there a book on color technology that would cover all these topics for those like with only basic knowledge of color technology and digital devices? In case there isn't are there any courses any of you could recommend that would address these topics? Thank you in advance, Joseph.

David: glad you find usefull this information. I only share what other people offer. You can find a lot of free resources from Cambridge in Colour, Canon (Light Source Measurement Tool), Colour Confidence, RMimaging, XRite, and many tools related on color management as in jpereira.net (works with ArgyllCMS), Color Camera Calibration (for scanners too) by Andrew Stawowczyk Long from National Library of Australia, ISO, ICC, CIE, etc. Salud Jose Bueno 2013/5/24 Spinnaker Photo Imaging Center < spinnakerphotoimagingcenter@dnmillerphoto.com>

This is timely but more expensive and it focuses mostly on the print production aspect but it may be of value... http://www.idealliance.org/events/color-for-content-creators Mark

i happen to have both editions, but have not yet had time to go through either (alas). For what it is worth, comparing the TOCs: There is no pagnation difference until Chjapter 8: p161 vs p163 By the end there are about 40 additional pages in the 2nd edition (512 vs 554 pages). in quick scan of preface and back cover i could find no information about what was new in the 2nd edition. jt On Fri, May 31, 2013 at 9:57 AM, Pylant, Brian <BrianP@discmakers.com>wrote:

One book that I find indispensable is Abhay Sharma's "Understanding Color Management". The definitive book and reference on **color technology** is "Billmeyer and Saltzman's Principles of Color Technology" by Roy S. Berns.
