Re: Feedback on success, creating another! camera profile
Alright, I understand now why for Adobe, to add ICC profiles support to LightRoom would mean a quantum leap backwards. So what are we left with: the 24 patch ColorChecker chart and DNG Profile editor? Does that produce good profiles? Is it worth investing the eighty bucks for a chart to give it a go? (I assume that there is no practical way for me to make such profile from the HCT target, right?) Paul Schilliger
Do you own a 24 patch Macbeth? If you do, you can use the X-rite software or Adobe's and both are free. If not, then yes, the $99 Passport is well worth the investment thanks not only to giving you that Macbeth but other white/black/gray/inbetween white's in a well designed case. If it's critical colorimetric accuracy you're after, you're not going to get that with Adobe raw development engines. That's not what they're designed for, and certainly not what they're optimized for. If that's your goal, you're going to have to use a different tool for raw development (though many Adobe tools are very useful for other typical workflow tasks, including those where colorimetric accuracy is important). No 24-patch chart is going to produce good profiles, though the ColorChecker is actually a darned good 24-patch chart. No 50-patch chart is going to do the trick, either, though the Passport is as good a real-world 50-patch chart as you're ever going to find. In theory, *any* chart is going to be better than *no* chart, but I haven't found enough of an improvement to recommend creating DNG profiles with a classic ColorChecker. If that's all you've got as an option, yes, do it -- but you're really only bailing water a bit faster and you haven't done anything about the hole in the hull. I'm still hoping this week to do a writeup of my own workflow. And the ColorChecker (Passport, though the Classic is a not-awful substitute) plays an important, though far from sufficient or even irreplaceable, role in said workflow. Where the ColorChecker really shines is in perfectly -- and I do mean perfectly -- nailing white balance and exposure, which are the first and in many ways most critical parts of the whole process. Cheers, b&
Thanks gentlemen. I had one, have to find it, it's somewhere :-[ but not sure it's the same patches arrangement. Should the color profiles made with it not fully satisfy, the Passport should be in any case a better helper than the grey card for my white balance in mixed lighting conditions. I'll get one. Alright, I understand now why for Adobe, to add ICC profiles support to LightRoom would mean a quantum leap backwards.
My 2¢ ... LR does support ICC profiles .... for ** printer ** profiles, when using "Color Handling: Photoshop Manages Color". My understanding is that neither the LR nor ACR engine supports ICC ** camera ** profiles. Or do I have a flawed understanding?
Doesn't LR also support ICC profiles when rendering colors colorimetrical to the screen? / Roger -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of LdaSignup Sent: Monday, May 6, 2013 11:40 PM To: colorsync-users@lists.apple.com Subject: Re: Feedback on success, creating another! camera profile

I don't know when Prophoto, sRGB or Adobe RGC get out of ICC color managed workflow and out of Colorsync. 2013/5/7 Roger Breton <graxx@videotron.ca>
