Thoughts on new displays for Mac workstations.
We are in a position to upgrade our old Mac workstations to new MacPros. As part of the upgrade we are interested in getting new displays along with each station. Currently, it's a bit of a hodgepodge of displays being used across the four stations; hopefully we can purchase the same model for each of them so there can be some consistency in the overall production environment. From a color management stand point, we don't want to just blindly invest in the Apple 27-inch LED Cinema displays if there is something for the same price point that is better suited for color critical work. For example, two of the stations are currently using Samsung SyncMaster 245Ts, and we've been pretty happy with their performance. Does anyone have any thoughts on the suitability of the Apple display vs other displays on the market. Any advice is appreciated. I'll be interested in the answers to this question as well, insofar as I'm in the market for another Mac set-up in our house. It is not 27". Asus PA246Q, near 500€. It is not listed as UGRA certified. The cartography service at the institution have one on the box. If the anual budget allow me the purchase of UDACT I'll do the test. Jose Bueno

I've been very happy with my NEC PA241W. A bit cheaper than the Apple display, though it is only 24". However, it has a couple of nice features built in to facilitate accuracy. One of the features that makes it particularly nice for calibration is the built in LUT. When used with the appropriate NEC software and calibration puck, the calibration numbers are sent to the monitor's LUT instead of modifying the signal that the video card sends. The software and puck do cost extra though...
You know, I bought my NEC PA241W for the lowest price I could find and it still came with software and the colorimeter. Very nice monitor. Best regards, David *DAVID SCHARF PHOTOGRAPHY* Scanning Electron Microscopy Los Angeles, CA 90039 http://www.scharfphoto.com On 3/12/12 7:29 AM, Tim Gray wrote:

Nothing wrong with the NEC PA series. MultiProfiler does wonder for helping visually matching hardcopy proofs.
