i1Profiler 3.8.0 released
XRIte quietly released i1Profiler 3.8.0 yesterday. You can find it at: https://www.xrite.com/service-support/downloads/i/i1profiler-i1publish_v3_8_0 For those that remember ProfileMakerPro’s Color Picker, you’ll be excited about the Color Picker beta. Select a Pantone color or Lab value and calculate that color within an output profile to 2 digits past the decimal. The Lighting Compare beta lets you take ambient light measurements, save them and compare them. And, omg, hell finally froze over… the new Gamut Viewer is available right from the home screen, yesss! WOW! This seems like rocket science. Strange enough basICColor display 6 has had some (useful) features for years: • Measure light • Evaluate light against ISO standards or custom criteria • Report CRI, Extended CRI, Rf and Rg … • Gamut viewer? What else is new? OK, basICColor display is display and light, only – no color picker and output color calculation (that was a different basICColor product that could even set arbitrary black generation, but that’s a different story). BTW, basICColor display 6 Pro creates 3D LUTs (.cube) for field monitors now, how's that? The good thing about display6 is that it integrates the MYIRO-1 which measures light starting at 360nm. All other features related to prepress and print are available in MYIROtools. Merry Christmas to the Color Community Claas Karl Koch via colorsync-users schrieb am 21.12.23 um 11:50:

Anybody else getting this annoying dialog box every time 3.8.0 is launched? Pantone Book download failed. Please check your Internet connection and try again. I can’t see any preference or button to fix this. — Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging
Yes, I get the same - I opened a Ticket with X-Rite on this. Alan Bradford alan.bradford@bluewin.ch

Thanks for confirming (and opening a ticket). I also note that X-Rite have fixed the problems with their Prism Engine so it will now build usable CMYK profiles from the FOGRA52 measurement data. The yellow channel in previous versions of i1Profiler was terrible in 52 and not great in 51 either. — Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging Ltd
I1Profiler 3.7 introduced the new Enhanced Black Generation which addressed the yellow channel you mention. It also introduced the Spot Color Compare tool. Check them both out if you haven’t already. Scott Martin www.on-sight.com Imaging Science for Art

In 3.8.0 you don’t need to use the “Enhanced Black Generation”. The “Legacy Black Generation” now works as expected and produces magenta and yellow channels that have closely matching curves. Should be called “Fixed Legacy Black Generation” as it won’t trash the yellow channel even if you liked the “mathematically correct” ugly seps. — Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging
