Re:Color Management for iPad?
There is already one solution on the market for the iPad color management. The makers of Datacolor Spyder3 have compiled a program called SpyderGallery that creates a profile for the device. http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-ms-spydergallery.php Gerald J Skrocki www.gskrocki.wordpress.com On Jul 29, 2011, at 3:02 PM, colorsync-users-request@lists.apple.com wrote:

I think there is already a profile etc in there somewhere. It shouldn't be hard to color manage a jailbroken device, the problem is that the color management interface is not available *yet* on locked-down devices. Edmund On Fri, Jul 29, 2011 at 11:58 PM, Roger Breton <graxx@videotron.ca> wrote:

Hello, iOS4 supports ICC based colormanagement, see also here: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/GraphicsImaging/Refere... it took me 2 minutes to find this document through Google. May be we should do a little bit more research, before we are doing statements about iPad and color management in this list. regards Jan-Peter Am 30.07.11 09:02, schrieb edmund ronald:

Hello to all, I´m definetly not the most knowledgable person about this in this list, because I´m not a developer !! But I share the knowledge I have with the people of this list. So far as I know, shares iOS, the operating system for iPhone, iPod and iPad some core technologies with Mac OS X. This includes parts of Core Graphics and the Quartz 2D Imaging model including dealing with ICC-profiles for Gray, RGB and CMYK and rendering Intents. http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/GraphicsImaging/Refere... <http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/GraphicsImaging/Reference/CGColorSpace/Reference/reference.html%23//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP30000949> For detailed technical discussions, Apple offers following mailinglists for developers: http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/quartz-dev (about programming and quartz in general) http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/colorsync-dev (about programming and colorsync) What I have not found through a simple web research, is any information, how the display colors are characterized/ profiled in iOS4. I still don´t know: - does iOS 4 provides a color characterization / profile for the display ? - If yes, is this an ICC-profile or an internal format because of speed optimization ? - if yes, is there any documentation about it ? - if yes, is this hardcoded, or can a developer change the display color characterization / profile ? If any one would ask this questions in one of the mentioned mailinglists. Best regards Jan-Peter Am 30.07.11 11:00, schrieb edmund ronald:

I was told that there is no "system API" or "services" to manage color on the way to the screen. Was I told wrong? Maybe. This is where I got my information from : ================== Color Management for iPad iOS 4.x does not have built-in color management support. BUT, there are some strange color conversions when you synchronize picture (with iTune) to your iPad. I did many tests in order to find a way to get better color accuracy for color pictures on the iPad screen. No!, the default color space to use for color pictures is NOT sRGB! Here is (link) a resumé of what I found (the problems) and soon, the solution! http://www.couleur911.com/ipad_color_management_en.html Let me know what you think about it ! Hello all, Looking futher in the programmers guide for Quartz at: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/GraphicsImaging/Concep... I found following statement: ********* Introduction Quartz 2D is an advanced, two-dimensional drawing engine available for iOS application development and to all Mac OS X application environments outside of the kernel. Quartz 2D provides low-level, lightweight 2D rendering with unmatched output fidelity regardless of display or printing device. Quartz 2D is resolution- and device-independent; you don't need to think about the final destination when you use the Quartz 2D application programming interface (API) for drawing. The Quartz 2D API is easy to use and provides access to powerful features such as transparency layers, path-based drawing, offscreen rendering, advanced color management, *********** This text from Apple states clearly, that iOS provides "advanced color management" !! So please ask Apple and not me, if the Apple statement is correct or not. I´m not a developer. Jan-Peter Am 30.07.11 15:41, schrieb Roger Breton:
