Dear all, there is currently only one tool which is able to measure the light environment and in the same time is conform with the ISO 3664. It is a spectroradiometer especially developped to do it well. Why? Actually the fact is that the EyeOne Pro only does measure at sampling interval: 3.5nm. It is to far for good results. Instead of this, these tool is able to reproduce and analyze wavelength each +/- 0.5 nm according to the ISO 3664 who needs to be < 1.0 for Mvis and < 1.5 for Muv. Thus, the EyeOne Pro displays results which appear exact but in fact are not. It is called GL optic. You can use ArgyllCMS's spotread to do this.
However, there is a big, fat bug in Lion which halts the process after capturing the data and displaying the chart.
Instead of the usual analysis of the results you get this instead:
spotread[266] <Error>: kCGErrorInvalidConnection: CGSGetWindowTags: Invalid connection spotread[266] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged
It doesn't affect the capture of the data though.

XRite's Pantone Color Manager (ships with i1Profiler) is the current product that has ambient light measurement and analysis. However, I've never gotten it to recognize any of my i1Pros. Has anyone else gotten this to work?

BabelColor has no problem recognizing all my i1pro's and more. It's a shame that third party apps manage these apparently simple tasks better than the mother ship :(

Will it export the ambient light measurement in a format that i1Profiler can use when I create a printer profile? We often do prints that are placed in a room with fluorescent lighting. To be able to create a profile that incorporates the light has been one of the uses that we have had for i1 Share.

You can take ambient measurements for this purpose within i1Profiler. In the "Lighting" step of the profiling process, choose "Measure" from the Ambient Light pop-up menu. You can save your measurements as assets for future use.

But The GL Optic seems to be more versatile because it offers a lot of accessories for various measure like light values, lumens value, luminance for display, LED, fluorescent. Hmm. The GL optic has a quoted FWHM of 12 nm, which seems not much better than the i1pro in 3.3 nm mode, where I see a measured FWHM of about 10nm at 650nm. (See <http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/laserdisp.jpg>) In normal 10nm mode, yes the i1pro seems to have a HWHM of 20nm. Graeme Gill.
