I1P has no problem with custom charts per se; I believe Terry's difficulty was in getting it to compute a profile from a data set that either lacks any CMY+K patches or has too few to satisfy i1P', which evidently errors out. I1P is not a true n-color solution; it wants to see a full CMYK set. (I have not tried making an RGB profile with it using C,M, and Y--maybe that also causes an error). Other profilimg applications have been designed to make profiles with any number or combination of colors and don't reqiure CMYK at all. Profilemaker Packaging was one. ColorLogic CoPrA (all versions) can make CMY profiles. It also should have no trouble using a chart with fewer-than-usual CMY+K patches. Mike Mike Strickler MSP Graphic Services

Argyll’s targen & printtarg can generate CMY-only test data and charts in seconds.
I know that you (really annoyingly) can’t import custom charts for scanner profiling, but surely i1Profiler must be able to import custom charts for printer profiling?

Hi, If a CMYK profile but with an empty K channel is OK, you might want to try creating and printing a CMYK chart (in your CMY print process), then measure it and set the 'Maximum K' slider in i1Profiler's Separation Settings to 0%. This creates an empty K channel (builds K with CMY only). Kind Regards, Liane

I had a similar issue with i1P's multicolor charts, where large portion of the patches were devoted to dark overprints that had little practical value for the sort of brand-color work we were doing. Fortunately, it accepted other charts with a better balance of colors for our purposes. In spite of the stern warning message issued upon importation of the third-party charts the profiles were superb. If your goal is to get by with few oatches overall, e.g., speed up the profiling of many devices, you might consider that you also have more CMY patches than you need, and a smaller chart than the IT874 might be perfectly fine for your purposes. I’d love to test that theory but my i1Pro2 is still in Germany for repair — which means that i1Profiler no longer works :( Are there any workarounds so that you can still use the software when the device is on its annual (and expensive) leave? -- Martin Orpen Idea Digital Imaging Ltd
