Color server for a Kodak Approval system
Hi All I have a costumer that has a Kodak Approval System. They use to have a Gretagmacbeth iqueue coler server in front of their Kodak Approval, so they can make simulations and optimizing destinationprofile. The iQueue system is down and now they are looking for a good and cheep solution. Therefor I want to use the Colorburst Overdrive RIP as a colorserver for their Kodak Approval System. Is it possible and do any of you have any experience on that? I need the overdrive RIP as a colorserver so I can use the Destination/simulationprofile and make a good simulation of Fogra39 and Fogra29 Med venlig hilsen/kind regards Martin Clausen Graphic Specialist XP Digital A/S, Gydevang 22, 3450 Allerød telefon 70 20 33 10 telefax 70 20 33 12 Mobiltelefon 31 73 02 23 martin.clausen@xpdigital.com <mailto:martin.clausen@xpdigital.com> www.xpdigital.com <http://www.xpdigital.com/>
Sorry to burst your bubble Martin but ColorBurst Overdrive is not going to be even CLOSE to the right solution for a Kodak Approval halftone proofer. First thing, you'll need to use a front-end system that can use device link profiles so you'll have control over primary/secondary purity and preservation of the black channel. A standard source/destination ICC conversion is not going to do that for you. Bottom line, it's not "the right thing" to fully color-manage a Kodak Approval halftone proofer in the same way we would color-manage an inkjet contone proofer. I would look at something like Alwan CMYK Optimizer as a color server or, better yet, GMG Color Server. Either one of these is capable of color-managing a dot proofer correctly. I'm curious how you think ColorBurst Overdrive RIP would even drive a Kodak Approval....Overdrive is generally meant to "hook-up" with an RGB inkjet print driver.
