Re: 'black start' according to X-Rite i1Profiler 1.4.2
Nice of them to document it :-( It caught me out a few days ago, after recalling a previous 'workflow' and seeing 'Black Start 70', thought it had corrupted, so changed it to 30 and made a new profile which I found had no black in the mid-tones, DUH!
From the (NO) Help Menu:
' When the value is set to "0", black will be immediately available to the separation, and will result in the appearance of black in very light tones.' Take care, Phil Phil Cruse Graphic Quality Consultancy Berkhamsted, U.K. http://www.colourphil.co.uk

Hello List,
If you create CMYK profiles with X-Rite i1Profiler, pay close attention. From 1.4.2, the meaning of the black start slider in Profile Settings has changed.
A black start of 10 now means that from L*10 and darker, black is used, as opposed to a start from 10%, which are of course highlights.
So from now on, this is the rule:
- Select a Black start of 100 to get Black into tonal CMY values from 0-100% - Select a Black start of 70 to get Black into tonal CMY values from 30-100% - Select a Black start of 50 to get Black into tonal CMY values from 50-100% - Select a Black start of 30 to get Black into tonal CMY values from 70-100% - Select a Black start of 10 to get Black into tonal CMY values from 90-100%
A mistake is easily made.
I shall restrain myself from any sarcastic comment.

I believe it caught them off guard, apparently recent sun flares caused the code to change by itself <g>. On another similar note, I can't get i1P 1.4 to measure a projector without popping errors that the instrument is positioned incorrectly. I've tried an i1Pro-2 Spectrophotometer and an i1Display Pro and get errors with both. I've moved the instruments every which way I can think and it keeps telling me to point them up, down, left or right. So my question is this: anyone using 1.4 able to mearure a projector? I'm running OS X 10.8.2. Reverting back to an old OS and copy of i1P (1.2), I was able to measure. Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/
