Re: Assigning Pantone Colors to Heat Treated Metallic Objects
I knew this was going to be a challenge. Thank you for your responses…you've given me some great ideas and a lot to think about. I will have to discuss the level of precision required for this project with the Engineering Manager to pick a reasonable pathway ahead. I think they may only need a small number of printouts, and there are probably about 20 different heat treated metallic samples with different colors. Running Metallic Pantone Colors on a press would be prohibitively expensive, especially for such a small run. Perhaps buying the Pantone Plus Premium Metallics swatch book and making a visual match will be close enough for their use. At least the surfaces are NOT polished glossy surfaces, which would make it even more difficult. I may experiment printing onto Metallic Papers with my Epson 3880 and see how close I can get. Not very scientific, I know, and I do understand that the color temp, CRI and angle of the viewing light will play a huge role. If I can't find a cost-effective solution that comes close enough for the customer, I will probably suggest that they generate "real" samples and send them out to their customers. Appreciate it.
