On the Chromix ColorWiki review for the NEC PA271 < http://www.colorwiki.com/wiki/NEC_PA271W_Review> it states: "This review assumes the user would be using either of the NEC programs for calibrating this display since they are the only available means of accessing the internal graphics." Since this review was almost a year ago, does anyone know if this is still true or are there other software now that can access the internal LUTS? Thanks. Ken

Still true as that software takes full advantage of controlling the panel for the important calibration as well as other proprietary options. Plus the software is a screaming deal ($89). Andrew Rodney http://www.digitaldog.net/
Hey Ken: NEC has 2 software options that will work: SpectraView and Multiprofiler. SpectraView will use actual measurements from your calibrator, MultiProfiler will use factory data. MultiProfiler is free. And as Andrew mentioned SpectraView is $89 from NEC's website. You might also look at basICColor Display v4, which will also communicate with the internal graphics, and is the core product for SpectraView versions used in Europe. Rick Hatmaker CHROMiX, Inc. Thanks Andrew and Rick. Since we are getting ready to purchase one of these, I just wanted to know what the current options were for calibration. The review also mentioned that the Spectraview puck would perform a better calibration of blacks than the i1Pro. Is it enough of a difference to purchase the puck when we already own two i1Pros? What about the difference, if any, between performance of the 27" and 30" monitors? Thanks. Ken

That should be true. I don’t have an NEC branded colorimeter, I use the i1Pro and it works quite well but I can’t say how much better calibration of blacks (darks) would be with the matted colorimeter. You have the budget, go for it. Of course if budge is an issue, just see how well you can do with the free Multiprofiler. I’ve heard a lot of happy users of that product. I have a Sony Artisan that is still functioning, but the software is now longer functional. Can someone suggest what software might function and access the internal LUT controls as the native software did? I have an i1 Pro (first gen.), ProfileMaker, and access to a Spectraview puck and Spectraview that is associated with an NEC 2690. -- ___________________________________________________ RICK GORDON EMERALD VALLEY GRAPHICS AND CONSULTING ___________________________________________________ WWW: http://www.shelterpub.com
Rick: The last I heard, ColorEyes Display Pro calibration software recognized and controls the Artisan sensor. You might download a demo and test it out to verify: <http://www.integrated-color.com/productdemo/demo.html

Dear Rick, I have not been able to get basICColor Display 4 to communicate with the internal LUTs of my PA241. I gathered that the European version does but can't be sold in the US :( Roger -----Original Message----- From: colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com [mailto:colorsync-users-bounces+graxx=videotron.ca@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of Rick Hatmaker Sent: August-10-11 2:31 PM To: Ken Fleisher Cc: ColorSync Users Mailing List Subject: Re: NEC PA271W Hey Ken: NEC has 2 software options that will work: SpectraView and Multiprofiler. Sounds like some troubleshooting might be necessary. There are some OS & App combo interactions that seem to play nicer than others. I'm not sure of the combos. You might speak with our tech support next week, when Pat Herold is back from vacation.

Correct. Rick

I'm using a PA 271 bought in Canada (North America version) with BasicColor 4.1.22, downloaded from the BasicColor website. I had no difficulty using BasicColor to do the hardware calibration via DDC and create the profile, which is very satisfactory. I think my display is just a slightly larger version of your display; so if that's the case my experience would indicate that your problem is not generic. Rick, My ignorance. All along I was at 4.1.10. 4.1.28 sees the PA just fine. Roger, Uninstall BasICColor Display and, when reinstalling, answer "No" when asked if you are in the USA. Just saying No unlocks L* calibration and more DDC options. EXACTLY. That is what I did when that question came up because I am in Canada, and it all works.
