Also i noticed that when i do when I do: AudioOutputUnitStop(fOutputAudioUnit); I notice that the console is giving the following error: mach_port_mod_refs(reply_port) failed: (os/kern) invalid name in the debugger console. I have an additional question that parallels the use of the cycle counter on later Intel and compatible microprocessos. Looking at the various PowerPC architecture manuals on the later chip versions there are some performance monitor counter registers like PMC1, etc. The event to monitor is set in the MMCR0 register and it can be the number of processor cycles. Several observations are immediate. It is only 32 bits, interrupts on overflow and to set the registers requires supervisor mode. Has Apple ever investigated trying to provide an interface to this feature to get even better timing resolution then the time base register method? If yes, what were the lessons? If no, why not? You got the volume mounted using mount_smbfs, but the Finder did not know this happened. The disk arbitration stuff is what does this. Conclusion: although I use the documented mount_smbfs command, the Finder looks confused after mounting a Windows share in this way. Why does the Finder think that the share is not writable ? (it should Think Differently) I'd try mounting the volume in a different way - by sending a "mount volume" Apple Event to self (or Finder, if the former doesn't work in Java). I'm afraid that I don't have any sample code for Java, but I used this form C++, and it worked. I often have this problem when manually mounting nfs exports from my linux server. I usually have to quit the Finder at least once, sometimes twice for it to see all the new mounts and get the file sizes correct. disktool -r seems to do nothing under 10.3, unlike 10.2, where it usually solved these issues.
