I know LVM lets you set up mirrors on a logical volume-by-volume basis, which is what allows multiple filesystems to be independently mirrored. To do the equivalent on Mac OS X would require Apple (or a third party) to port the open-source LVM package to Darwin. I would personally LOVE to see LVM on Mac OS X, at least as an option for the server OS, as it would bring much of the flexibility in filesystem and disk management that other UNIXes enjoy to the platform. I did learn from those bugzillas that you have been involved with the register problems, so I trust your memory! :-) I'll wait to see if clobbering by save/restore is indeed fixed in later versions of gcc. But since I don't use any gcc beyond the Apple developer tools, that could be awhile? Application Lauch Failure

Project is done in Carbon and running in classic environment. I had build it successfully. When i lauch, it gives the following problem. It was quickly (and quietly as has been discussed on either this or some other Apple mailing list recently) marked as "closed/duplicate." I tried reinstalling the BSD SDK several times when this happened to me. Nothing seemed to work. However, when Apple was nice enough to send me the 10.3 CD, upgrading seemed to cause the problem to go away--at least for me. This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com

The idea was to have one thread send a message to the other one without the need for an intermediate lock-free fifo for example. Basically I'm using the client logic inside the server : accessing the RPC port that is published by the server and using RPC call on this port from one thread to be handled by another "listening" thread. I had to hack the MIG generated files to avoid names conflict (the same RPC call that is usually compiled on server and client side independently is now compiled on the server side). Even if it seems to work correctly, I was wondering if is is correct to use MIG RPC system like that or if another light inter-thread communication system should be used. People had to reinstall X11SDK.pkg up to 3 times until all files were there. Typical missing files are also /usr/lib/crt1.o and friends. I myself counted almost 3000 (!) missing man pages after the upgrade to Panther. This is all pretty disgusting and is costing a lot of people a lot of time. The crt1.o issue is caused by doing some combination of an update to Xcode 1.1 and various system software updates. The fix is to install Xcode 1.2 or 1.5, or to do a full install of Xcode 1.1.
