Below is the path from which I am trying to get the same: IODeviceTree -> Root -> device-tree -> pci@f0000000 -> NVDA,Parent@10 -> NVDA,Display-A@0 (for First Display) and NVDA,Display-B@0 ( for second Display) When I connect single monitor it gives the key for "EDID" in Display A,but if I connect 2 monitors then in Display A i am getting "EDID" key for first display in Dispaly-A, but for second display i not getting any "EDID" key in Display-B. Ideally, when we connect two monitors, then the IORegistry should display 2 different EDID keys, i.e. different EDID data for corresponding to each monitor. I tried the same by restarting the machine many times, but the issue remains the same. also , i tested this issue on other dual head cards NVIDIA 7300 GT, NVIDIA Quadra FX 4500, the issue remains the same. Is this issue related with the graphics card manufacturer or with the Macintosh OS ? Has anybody encountered this situation before? or If anybody know some other way to get the EDID data for both the monitors. Please suggest. I hoped to find someone here who could answer me a question regarding IOKit, specificly IOPlatformDevice and IODTPlatformDevice. I would be happy if someone could explain me the diffrence and what changed during the time to it. I was specificly looking at the IOACPIFamily.kext and saw one fo the main changes from 3 to ver. 6 was that this superclass was changed within it. Is it possible to explain me why? A new project has fallen on my lap which requires gathering and analysis of quite a bit of system usage information on a per-process (task?) basis. I need to gather at least the following: CPU usage, memory usage (total allocated memory, resident memory, wired memory, page file usage), I/O information (bytes read/write, from/to disk or network devices). It would also be good to have other information such as graphics device access stats and audio device stats. I figured a good way to get started would be to look at the source for top, and I really hope there is an easier, softer way to go about this. top relies on sysctl to gather kernel process info, and iterates trough a process' thread info in order to gather things like CPU utilization data. If I have to go about it that way, I will, but was wondering if there is a more straight-forward approach. Also, the I/O statistics (network and disk) gathered by top are on a global basis, rather than on a per-process basis (it iterates through the different block devices and network interfaces to collect this data). Is accounting of these stats available per-process or per- thread? The impression I am getting is that some information is available via the kernel, other via the BSD subsystem, other via the IOKit APIs. I don't know how much overlap there is, or which is the best way to get to this information. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. OK, this explains that: rsync -E was almost unusable at the time of 10.4. Yes, but as I said, I didn't use the rsync on the DVD, I used the one on my system disk. I booted from the DVD and used something like / Volumes/VolName/usr/bin/rsync to get the 10.4.9 version on my hard drive. I even tried to use DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to make sure dynamic libraries came from the right place, but I have no idea if that worked or not. Ok. As I said, the tests started failing on 4/24. Here's the tail of my software update log: 2007-03-14 12:08:14 -0700: Installed "Mac OS X Update (PowerPC)" (10.4.9) 2007-03-31 21:16:10 -0700: Installed "iTunes" (7.1.1) 2007-04-22 23:43:29 -0700: Installed "Security Update 2007-004 (PowerPC)" (1.0) 2007-05-02 14:06:55 -0700: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.6) I guess I was somewhat mistaken about the chronology -- I installed the update just before my *first* backup attempt (the one that failed). But you can see there was no update on 4/24. Right, but 2007-004v1.0 has been installed April 22th, late in the night. Have you rebooted your laptop immediately after that installation, or have you waited somewhat before rebooting? Did you have lots of open/running applications while installing the update? As I said, I installed it just before backing up my system (which I left going overnight), which involved rebooting from the Tiger DVD to make sure my system wasn't in use during the backup. I have no idea what was running when I installed the update. Anyway, other people tend to relate the problem to Security Update 2007-004 (v1.0 as well as v1.1) too. Could you have a look at: <http://lists.apple.com/archives/macos-x-server/2007/May// msg00040.html> and subsequent messages? If it's related to SU2007-4 it's a very strange correlation. I was testing for 2 days after that update before the "change" happened. With a bit luck, if you haven't changed the default launch times for the periodic scripts, your wtmp and system.log logs still contain info about reboots (and much more) back to April. Indeed. After checking my logs I can once again verify that there was no reboot on April 24. There was one on the 23'rd at about 3 PM, then one on the 28'th.
