So control it anyway by renaming the binary in the bundle and putting a stub in there that will save off the id for you and then reexec the real binary: This is not a 'nice' thing to do to someone else's application. In a more limited environment (say, an internal business application), it may be reasonable, but for an at-large application (where the application is deployed to general consumers, which have more limited technical knowledge), I would think this rises to the level of being unacceptable. Problem's include: -an updater for the application may fail in an unexpected way (both for the developer of the application and the end-user) -the application may be signed, and will fail to run when modified But in the end, everyone has to decide what kind of problems they will give the end user as part of their solution for themselves. Still I am stuck with second issue to find the path to my application in my system. Actually there are 3 steps: 1. To know that application is running or not? Now it is done. 2. If not then get the path of application where it was installed (user can change the path during installation). 3. Launch the application. My code is standard C++ tool so I want to use only C and C++ APIs. You should never have to use it to identify an application. Use the Application Bundle identifier, or the application creator instead. I think I need to use GetNextProcess and but I am not clear to use it to know about that my application is running or not. I know only about the name of my application and I have to iterate over GetNextProcess and use sysctl API. When we create a process, we inform it of the path that was used to start it (so it can do bundle-relative things), but again, that information is subject to becoming stale (for example, as a result of installing an update while the process is running, you will get the path to the new bundle rather than the bundle of the running code, as the update replaces it). In general, there is no atomic/idempotent way to associate this information with a given running program, and what information there is regarding the full path is generally only known to the program itself (unless, of course it chooses to share it by, for example, writing the information out to a file in /var/run). Export File Linker Error?

However, when I try to load my kext that is linked with the export file, I get a link/load error from kextload: __ZN25IOGeneralMemoryDescriptor5doMapEP8ipc_portPjmmm __ZN25IOGeneralMemoryDescriptor7doUnmapEP8ipc_portjm Which c++filt says are: IOGeneralMemoryDescriptor::doMap(ipc_port*, unsigned int*, unsigned long, unsigned long, unsigned long) IOGeneralMemoryDescriptor::doUnmap(ipc_port*, unsigned int, unsigned long) I'm compiling for 10.4 and running/loading on 10.5. I checked the headers and this interface is in both versions. If I remove my .exp file, the kext loads just fine.
