Its not actually an ISO image, but I noticed that /dev/disk2 exists, which often is where cdrom bsd devices are created. To test this I ran hdituil eject /dev/disk2 and sure enough the "Remote Disk" disappeared from the "Devices" sidebar finder and my desktop. I cannot get it back, even after rebooting. I'm going to try a recovery CD (it can still net boot from another machine with a recovery disk), but was wondering if there was any way around this or if I should file a bug with Apple. The sources were imported from FreeBSD, and have been extended to work correctly on 64-bit systems. Note, however, that by definition a "long" in RPC is 32 bits, so routines that take longs really take 32-bit values on any platform. The RPC library routines are built into libSystem, so you don't need to compile with "-lrpc" or whatever. The RPC header files are in /usr/ include/rpc as you would expect. I am porting some windows code which makes use of the "oncrpc" Sun- RPC lib (librpc, rpcgen XDR etc) I do have the RPC source code of the libraries originally linked to the actual application code I am porting, but its from the late 90's and there is alot of it. My question is whether OSX includes the sun librpc - I did find some of the same stuff in the Mac OSX development kit, but its not clear if this is the same, or something slightly different, or a subset. I can see that documentation that Apple supports XML-RPC via Apple events, but this seems to be different to the original RPC I am dealing with (which is not the XML type). It works fine on my mac (10.5 on i386) but on the mac of one of my client, he have this error: Can't get 'kern.version' from sysctl: Bad file descriptor What can be the problem? You are probably holding up matching for the device (possibly due to your callback not returning or returning the wrong status). Installing the plists requires admin authorization, as such the scripts will be run as root. When starting/stopping the agent you need to run the command in the context of the user. You're also going to want to check for the presence of the file before unloading it in the preinstall script, else the script . My preinstall script is below for reference - if [ -f /Library/LaunchAgents/dawnAlarma.plist ]; then su $USER -c 'launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/ com.buoy.dawnAlarma.plist' fi You are right to be concerned about closing the mach ports that applications could be connected to. I solved this by writing a simple wrapper around NSConnection which auto-reconnects. I'm also working on one which saves and forwards messages once the connection has been re- established, that way the wrapper client doesn't need to be concerned with the status of the link. Since I'm in the process of doing a release and have the installer open, I'm considering making it an agent on Leopard for future compatibility. 1) Is there a way to set up the plist so that it will load under Leopard and newer, but not under Tiger? (If not, I can have my installer postflight script delete the plist file under Tiger and it will work fine as a global login item if the user upgrades the OS) 2) I'm assuming that should call "launchctl unload my-agent.plist" during my installer preflight and will shut down all copies in all users and then call "launchctl load my-agent.plist" in my postfight to bring it back up for all users. Are there any other issues I need to worry about -- like if a running application has a connection to one of my agents mach ports? 3) I'm familiar with setting up a launch daemon for launch on demand with unix domain sockets -- for the agent, I need to do the same with a few mach ports.
