It looks like no attempt is made to deal with the exception and in general exceptions in Cocoa are truly exceptional and imply a mistake by the programmer. "If a cocoa exception is thrown in the middle of a gecko callback, really bad things happen (like you can no longer load any pages, for example). Cocoa exceptions are basically setjmp/longjmp, and, presumably, without a handler, will jump back to the main event loop's default handler. This will unwind the stack without any stack cleanup." I wouldn't attempt to catch the exception but instead let a top level handler get it and then make a decision to log at that point (look at NSExceptionHandler). Once I updated my environment to account for DSTROOT/SRCROOT and so forth, everything worked amazingly well. Since they relate to DYLD load/map/unmap they are probably not needed for the Windows build at all. These symbols are used in both the objc-runtime-new.m and objc-runtime-old.m implementations: 1. map_images 2. unmap_images 3. load_images I ended up bracketing these three functions inside a "#if !TARGET_OS_WIN32/#endif", and everything then built fine. This function, like many others is bracketed in NS_OBJC_BEGIN_TRY_ABORT_BLOCK_NSRESULT and NS_OBJC_END_TRY_ABORT_BLOCK_NSRESULT, i.e. It looks harmless but the assembler dump is horrendous (below). 2/3 or 3/4 of this function (more?) are taken by the exception setup and cleanup. ObjC exceptions are zero-cost on x86-64 but very expensive on x86-32. I think this is ham-handed use of ObjC exceptions but I'm told that this is done this way because Carbon can throw ObjC exceptions. Can someone confirm this, please, or suggest a less evil way of handling ObjC exceptions arising from Carbon? I'll look into it, but please write a radar. I'm pretty sure this worked in 10.5. One 10.6 i set kqueues to watch a file. If I modify the resource fork or add or delete the fork, the kqueue event doesn't fire and I don't get notified to update. Anyone know if this was a change in 10.6?
