Has anyone else here tried to compile GMP v4.2 on a G5? The newest release appears to fail its make check when built with the --enable-cxx configure option. The developer is blaming Apple's devtools as usual. However one other user with a G5 reports problems when building with gcc 4.2 branch as well. Apparently he is waiting for someone to offer him a patch to fix it. Currently only G4 builds can completely pass its make check in GMP 4.2.
Hi Jack, Been following your thread on GMP as well :). I tested gmp-4.2 (release) with --enable-cxx on a G5 (OS 10.3.9) machine, but compiled with FSF's gcc-4.1.0 (fink-installed) using odcctools-590. For me, all but one test in the entire test suite (run by make check) passes -- the one failure being t-hamdist. Torbjorn has attributed that to a miscompile (wrong-code) of mpz/hamdist.c. Haven't seen a gcc bug report on this yet though. I attempted to compile with Xcode's gcc (build 1640) on the same machine, but it ICE'd on ../../mpz/cfdiv_q_2exp.c:91: internal compiler error: in extract_insn I don't have a G5 machine with Xcode 2.x yet to test out gcc-4.0.1 (build 5250). I'd be interested in hearing success/fail reports with Xcode 2.
