Better safe then sorry, so can anybody tell us what is a reliable maximum size ? ATTR_MAX_SIZE is the largest attribute the current implementation supports. There is no upper bound defined; some implementations (e.g. specific HFS versions) may have lower limits. You should avoid imposing any explicit limits on EA size if possible to minimise the risk that a later change in the system will cause compatibility issues for you.
