Ha, good one, you almost had me there. If Apple had reserved the .alias extension for alias files (as much as Apple can reserve a file extension) then it would be there as a file extension for kUTTypeAliasFile in the UTI APIs. Glenn. If I recall correctly, that file is installed by one of the gettext/ libiconv/m4 software packages, but I can't remember exactly which one at the moment.
