I think I recognise text which has survived in manpages from the dawn of unix. The analogous manpage on SunOS (which appears not to have survived into this BSD) documented a 'rapid shutdown' option which could be used "for example, if the processor is on fire". I always thought this presumed a rather stylish coolness on the part of the admin issuing the command.
