The MacFuse project ( http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/ ) has come a long way to making user-space filesystems accessible to Darwin/MacOS X. Would making MacFuse part of the core Darwin feature set, along with having file systems such as DAV being based on this, be considered an advantage to the system?
