Processes stuck in the 'E' state require a kernel debugger investigate further. I am working with a project which does serial port communication. I opened the serial port and attempted to close it. Since then my application has stayed in the exiting state, for the past 3 days. Attempting to do a 'kill -9' on it has no success. The entry from ps is: ajmas 8833 0.0 0.0 0 0 ?? E Wed10pm 0:00.00 (java) Is there any way of establishing what could be preventing the application from exiting? I am using MacOS X 10.5.1.
