I don't think you understood me. I'll restate it more clearly: there are some EFI64 Macs which will not load the 64-bit kernel even if you attempt to override the default choice by pressing "6" and "4" during boot. Thus, EFI bitness is clearly not the only criterion, if it is one at all (we outsiders have insufficient information to know whether it actually is, IMO). Indeed, my guess is that (on machines that are actually 64-bit capable) it has rather more to do with not having 64-bit versions of some of the required device drivers...
