What about XNU? We are mired at Darwin-8.3 at this time. I have posted a solution to the alleged problems.

We have nothing to announce regarding xnu for Intel at this time.
That would then imply that we are in reality mired at Darwin-7 at this time. Actually, Darwin-7.2 works ok on a commodate Opteron machine. Here is a screenshot. http://www.gnu-darwin.org/today2.png That is 100% free software. Testing with glxgears confirms that MesaGL is performing about twice as fast as on a comparable 32-bit CPU, although some other tasks are clearly not yet optimized. The machines are otherwise roughly identical. If anyone can think of other interesting benchmarks, be sure and let me know while I have access to this Opteron machine. BTW, Pymol rocks on the thing. Moreover, I would encourage the development of alternative drivers, and the porting of the drivers from Darwin-7.2, which is free and open source software to Darwin-8, which is not. That would fix the problem. If you are aware of such FOSS drivers, which are already in existence, please alert me so that they can be included in The GNU-Darwin Distribution. We are especially in need of ethernet card drivers and SATA drivers. Together, we can make Darwin a 100% free software platform for the duration.
