No, you can still continue to try to figure out the answer on your own, free of charge. But you can't count on figuring out the answer, let alone a timely one. You can also file a bug report with Apple. This is also free of charge. Eventually Apple will get around to looking at it, and responding to it. However, there is no fixed reply time or guaranteed response [it might just be marked as 'duplicate' for example]. You can also post questions here and on various other technical mailing lists and web sites. But you can't count on even getting a answer, let alone a timely one. You can also post questions on a voluntary mailing list, and then wait for a reply. However, you seem to assume that a) somebody has already come across this specific problem b) they are subscribed to this mailing list and have read your message c) they need some goading on your part to answer your question You may have a misunderstanding of the technical support incident. It's not just a secret 'answer' database, where you pay money, and somebody looks up the answer in this database, and returns you the answer to your question [though it is possible somebody else also had this problem]. Typically, it is sent to an engineer who actually tries to replicate the issue and spends the time to figure what's going on. Most likely, it may actually be somebody who has worked on the xcode toolchain and can readily tell you what's what. Of course, the answer could also be something along the lines of 'that symbol isn't available on 10.5 because of a bug'. But somebody will actively look at your problem and you will get an answer. And oddly enough, Microsoft also charges for developer technical support like this. They also have developer forums and mailing lists which MAY result in an answer to a question, but they also come with no guarantee's about whether or not you will get an answer for any specific problem you may have.
