WIth a parent/child relationship a lot of options are available to you without mach. I'm not sure but I vaguely remember from many years ago that in speed tests mach was slower than unix-domain sockets which was slower than pipes. Not sure what the current relationship is though. Yeah, I remember those tests. For smaller transfers (4-16K) they beat mach messages, but if I remember correctly, it changes as things get bigger and also depends on how the data is used.
