On the other hand I don't believe I'm doing anything funny as far as the POSIX standard is concerned. Well, as of the 2004 edition of 1003.1, strictly conforming POSIX applications can't use these functions at all, and are supposed to use the POSIX threads functions instead. Last I checked (late 2006), they were slated for removal altogether in the next rev of the standard (which should be happening right around now, if I recall correctly). As to why it works in Linux but not Darwin, my first guess would be "luck" :-). Using these functions has always been a fairly delicate matter. This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
