This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com Why is rsync in 10.4.5 darwin still based on 2.6.3? I'm seeing the protocol corruption error that this post http://archive.netbsd.se/? ml=rsync&a=2005-09&t=1344997 suggests is fixed in 2.6.6 Apparently this it the bug that is apparently worked around if you turn off spotlight on the source (not dest as you should already have it off on the dest drive) drive. Hmm... well, I patched rsync 2.6.3 for my Linux box and it exhibits the problem when rsync between local repositories. So I don't yet understand the work-around with Spotlight. I note that rsync as patched by Apple will segfault every time if you run as root and try to rsync the top level of an HFS+ volume, if you try to use the -E extended attribute switch. I've made a go at patching 2.6.6 rsync. If I get it to work, I'd like some testers. No promises at this point, but I need this myself! smime.p7s
