I was advised to post to this list to see if I could get any answers to a consistent problem I have. I had a 200 GB external drive mounted in an M9 case which I was using as a boot drive for my Mac mini G4. The casing power failed while I was using it and the 200 GB drive went from 189 GB formatted down to 129 GB and is unbootable. I bought a new 250 GB LaCie external as a new boot drive and re-installed the OS and copied as much files, docs, mp3s, pics etc that I could retrieve from the old drive. Now the computer crashes 3-4 times a day even unattended. The panic is as follows: panic(cpu 0 caller 0x000E3DDC): vnode_writedone: numoutput < 0 Latest stack backtrace for cpu 0: Backtrace: 0x00095138 0x00095650 0x00026898 0x000E3DDC 0x000D8A24 0x2DFE7230 0x2DFD9FF4 0x2E554C80 0x2E557A38 0x2E557B38 0x2DF4CFFC 0x2DF4D22C 0x2E11D27C 0x2E11D6B8 0x2E093C6C 0x2E0936EC 0x2DCF6A44 0x2DCD8040 0x2DCD7940 0x2DD43AD4 0x2DD33450 0x002D0B94 0x002CFA5C 0x000A9314 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIReducedBlockCommandsDevice(1.4.9) @0x2e553000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily(1.5)@0x2dfd4000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily (1.4.9)@0x2df45000 com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport(1.4.4) @0x2e11b000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily (1.4.9)@0x2df45000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireSBP2(1.7.5) @0x2e090000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily(2.2.5) @0x2dcce000 com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireSBP2(1.7.5)@0x2e090000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily(2.2.5) @0x2dcce000 com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily(1.5)@0x2dfd4000 com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily(1.4.9) @0x2df45000 com.apple.driver.AppleFWOHCI(2.5.3)@0x2dd2d000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(1.7)@0x28074000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily(2.2.5) @0x2dcce000 com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily(2.2.5)@0x2dcce000 Proceeding back via exception chain: Exception state (sv=0x2DBCBC80) PC=0x00000000; MSR=0x0000D030; DAR=0x00000000; DSISR=0x00000000; LR=0x00000000; R1=0x00000000; XCP=0x00000000 (Unknown) Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.0: Fri Sep 8 17:18:57 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.12.6.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Model: PowerMac10,1, BootROM 4.8.9f1, 1 processors, PowerPC G4 (1.2), 1.42 GHz, 1 GB Graphics: ATI Radeon 9200, ATY,RV280, AGP, 32 MB Memory Module: DIMM0/J11, 1 GB, DDR SDRAM, PC2700U-25330 Modem: Jump, , V.92, Version 1.0, Bluetooth: Version 1.7.8f2, 2 service, 1 devices, 1 incoming serial ports Network Service: Built-in Ethernet, PPP (PPPoE), ppp0 Parallel ATA Device: ST9808210A, 74.53 GB Parallel ATA Device: MATSHITACD-RW CW-8123, USB Device: Hub, , Up to 480 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Hub, , Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: DBT-122, D-Link, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: SoundSticks, harman/kardon, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: USB Printer, EPSON, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Hub in Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/ sec, 500 mA USB Device: Microsoft(R) Compact Optical Mouse, Microsoft, Up to 1.5 Mb/sec, 100 mA USB Device: Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 250 mA FireWire Device: LaCie mini Hub FW, LaCie Group SA, Up to 400 Mb/sec Some of the files I've copied over are corrupt but I need to check about 10,000 files to find out. –––––––––––––––––––––– Vince Loden HKMacs Tel: (852) 29824274 Mobile: (852) 93486884 E-mail: <hkmacs@mac.com> <vloden@mac.com> Disclaimer: This email (including every file transmitted with it) may contain confidential and privileged information and is solely for the use of the intended recipient(s).
