During boot, test pings in /etc/rc work to resolve FQDNs until 'lookupd' is started, and fail thereafter. I have set up 'darwinbuild' and compiled the 'netinfo' package (contains lookupd and the resolver libs) and with the new binaries, the behavior persists. Previous experiments netbooting Darwin 8.0.1 (from the Apple ISO) on this same machine did not produce this behavior (resolver worked after starting lookupd). Kernel traces and 'lookup -d' output are here: http://www.cybertheque.org/sw/darwin/lookupd-debug A similar issue is mentioned on a number of IPhone development websites but the workarounds don't work here. I would appreciate insights from those folks more familiar with the implementation and suggestions for introducing debugging into the code for 'lookupd' and the resolver (and perhaps appropriate libc routines).
