I like the idea of using a different extension and then renaming after the permissions changes. I take it back. If timeing is an issue here, this solution doesn't work. A full cache update would still be missed if the file is renamed and the folder touched during the cache update. ...Duane Reading all this makes me wonder whether providing an "installkext" command as part of the system could be handy. This way we know that the kext is getting installed in the right manner and right location. Since in the short term this isn't available, the install script could check to see if the system provides the command and if it doesn't reverts back to a copy provided with the installer.
