Could you please provide reference to the documentation about / Library/Extensions/ folder? I do remember i was study this question in the Tiger times, and was adviced against this by apple engineers. The only reason to install in /S/L/E is if the KEXT is needed to boot the OS from disk. Not only, any device drivers which need to be loaded in responce to device plugged in, AFAIC. Better /S/L/E than /L/E even though /L/E would be preferred, but in practice for some reason it didn't pan out in testing. This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
