Actually it is because the NVRAM driver is built in the EFI. Not that I have any reason to actually want K64, but I wonder what the overhead of using a small hypervisor to virtualize access to the NVRAM would be. Thanks to the VT extensions it's perfectly possible to run a 64-bit kernel under a 32-bit hypervisor in this fashion.
